I Stopped Writing Erotica Because I Wasn’t Horny Anymore

I found who I was looking for

Weird things happen to you when you start having sex again after a decade.

I never expected how horny I’d be. It was like someone had just turned the switch on and walked away. I couldn’t stop thinking about men, and I would have gone with anyone half decent looking in a heartbeat.

In the early days of my affair, before we’d even met, he would text me some of the sexiest things I’ve ever read. I sent nudes for the first time (ever), and he sent me videos of him masturbating.

Dick Pic Pro Tip — Gentlemen ask first, before sending. Sure, it’s your favorite toy, but she wants to make sure it isn’t attached to a loser.

OMG, I was so hot.

I was a little shy, showing him my body at first. I worried he wouldn’t like me, but the things he said! My husband has never said those things to me, and two years later, he’s still saying them. If I’d never sent a nude before, I’ve made up for it. I send them now to keep him going through all of this craziness, and he still says the most lovely things about me!

I’m truly blessed.

When we’d started chatting, I’d been toying around with the idea of writing erotica in my retirement to supplement my pension. I thought I would write in the mornings, lounge on the beach in the afternoons and spend my evenings in breezy bars and cafés without a care in the world.

Ah, Costa Rica! Here I come!

To get a head start, I wrote some erotica to see what it was like. Probably because of my affair, it was pretty simple because I was on fire. ALL. THE. TIME.

I could write 1500 words in a night and get a draft story done in a couple of days. And I was wet the entire time. I was thinking of my lover while writing kinky fun things for my sexy heroines. The words flowed out of me.

Writing through that fall included a few business trips, where I got to know my lover better. Usually, we’d plan a night together, and I would work on my stories the rest of the time, fuelled by the memories we were making.

My stories.

My main protagonist, Ella, got into all sorts of sexy trouble at work, on a cruise, with workmen in her backyard, and on a skiing holiday. Sandy serviced a couple at a hotel while her husband played chess at his club in downtown Boston. Ms. Zed, a dom, revealed her love and crossed a line in Unbroken.

My opus was Zero Gravity. I loved writing that story. It came to me as I watched a crew head to the space station. During a news conference, the Canadian astronaut came on, and I thought, boy, those eyes. And beside him was a US Navy pilot with a cute blond bob. They made a cute couple, so I made them a cute couple — with a twist. And just like that, Anna was getting laid on the International Space Station!

I was churning them out! Building some followers and learning the ropes of Amazon and Kindle Direct Publishing. I suppose if I kept at it, I might have made some money. Then something happened.

I wasn’t horny anymore.

After my initial rush, the heat wore off, and things calmed down. Towards Christmas, I suppose I’d had enough sex to set me straight and the erotica stopped flowing as passionately. I still have two stories on the drawing board.

One, a lazy day in a campground, where the motherly housewife takes care of two young men at the next campsite. The other describes an Inuit ritual feast in the high Arctic.

The Sedna feast, was the ritual used to honor Sedna, the owner of the sea animals. The Inuit asked Sedna to return the sea animals each fall.

The feast ends with the shaman separating the established couples for the night. The women return to their igloos for sex with a different partner for the night and I wanted to capture the sexy times.

I had a decision to make.

Keep writing stories or write my book on cheating. In taking stock, I realized my lover had taken care of me so well I wasn’t dripping anymore. I no longer had a WAP, and the sexy words stopped flowing. I decided to work on the book. I was also finishing my masters project, so that added 25,000 words to my spring and summer.

I finished my book in May, and I handed in my 120-page project in August. After that I quit writing altogether for three months.

In the twelve months up to that point, I had written 40,000 words of erotica, a 58,000-word book, and a 25,000-word research paper. Over 123,000 words in twelve months that included a moved across the country, me changing jobs, and maintained a long-distance relationship with my lover.

I did the final edits on my book over Christmas and pushed it out the door that New Year’s Eve.

Living my best double life.

So I’m not sure I’ll go back to writing erotica, but I know I’ll write something. Come what may, there’ll always be a beach in Costa Rica waiting for me.

But now, when I close my eyes to imagine it, someone else is holding my hand as I walk the beach.
